A serving and storage area near the kitchen or dining room can provide landing space for dishes and a counter for setting out food. Consider the view from adjoining rooms and the amount of surface that should stay clear.
Walk-in pantry counter
A counter within a storage pantry can hold frequently used appliances and give you a place to set down groceries. Its depth must work with shelving, doors and the space needed to move through the room.
Scullery or prep pantry
A secondary prep space may include a sink, dishwasher and more working counter. Share the actual fixture and appliance plan so the stone can be coordinated with the cabinetry and the rest of the remodel.
Plan the room around the work
Three zones make the countertop easier to use.
Sketch where you will set things down, where equipment will stay and where cleanup will happen. A short pantry counter can feel crowded when every appliance is added after the layout is fixed.
Clear landing space
Leave a usable area for groceries, serving trays or meal preparation. Show any door swing, pull-out shelf or cabinet opening that could interfere with the working surface.
Appliance space
List the machines that will remain on the counter. Account for lids opening, water tanks being removed, cords reaching outlets and the clearances required by each manufacturer.
Sink and cleanup space
If a sink is included, confirm its model, faucet and cabinet opening. Coordinate any dishwasher or undercounter appliance with the cabinet plan before approving the countertop cutout.
For a narrow or L-shaped pantry: include a top-down drawing with every run, return and doorway. Overall square footage does not show corner conditions, seam options or the route needed to bring the finished stone into the room.
When the pantry includes water
Plan the sink and backsplash as part of the surface.
A pantry sink can be useful for preparation and cleanup, but it changes the countertop order. The opening, faucet holes, sink mounting and available cabinet space need to be confirmed together.
Discuss a short stone splash, tile or a taller slab backsplash around the work area. Include outlets, shelf brackets and any window ledge that meets the finished surface.

Should pantry countertops match the kitchen?
They can match, coordinate or deliberately differ. The best choice depends on the sightline between rooms, how much stone each area needs and whether the kitchen material is already installed.
Bring the kitchen selection or a clear photograph when you discuss the pantry. A material name alone cannot show the exact shade or movement of an existing surface.
- Specify both rooms together
- Including the pantry in the original stone layout makes it easier to review matching pieces, slab use and any remaining material before fabrication.
- Coordinate with an existing kitchen
- Compare samples beside the actual kitchen countertop. A quieter background or related tone may be more practical than trying to reproduce an unavailable slab.
- Choose a separate pantry material
- A room behind a door may allow a different surface that suits the intended use and quote. Check the transition where the materials are visible together.

Could a remnant fit your pantry?
A suitable remnant may work for a short serving counter or a single pantry run. The piece must provide the required length and depth, plus usable material for any matching splashes and cutouts.
For two runs or an L-shaped layout, send the complete drawing. Two pieces that fit individually may not provide the match or seam arrangement you want. Listed remnant dimensions are a starting point for review, not final approval.

No. A dry pantry counter can provide serving, appliance or landing space. A prep pantry with a sink requires additional cabinet, cutout, faucet and plumbing coordination.

Does a pantry countertop quote include a complete scullery remodel?
Ask for the specific inclusions. A countertop request covers the agreed stone work; cabinetry, plumbing, electrical work and other renovation tasks should each have a confirmed scope and responsible contractor.
