Does marble need to be sealed? +
Sealing is generally recommended because it helps reduce absorption and the risk of staining. The proper schedule depends on the marble, finish, sealer and amount of use.
Will marble countertops etch? +
Marble can etch when acidic products such as lemon, vinegar or wine react with the surface. A sealer helps with absorption but does not prevent etching.
Is marble suitable for a kitchen? +
Yes, when the homeowner understands its care requirements and accepts that the surface may develop a natural patina. For greater resistance to etching, quartzite, granite or quartz may be a better fit.
What is the difference between marble and quartzite? +
Both are natural stones, but true quartzite is generally harder and more resistant to scratching and acidic foods. Marble has a softer, more classic appearance and can etch.
Is honed marble easier to maintain? +
Honed marble can still etch and stain, but its lower-sheen finish may make changes in the surface less noticeable than on highly polished marble.
Should I choose from a sample or a full slab? +
Choose from the available full slab whenever possible. Small samples cannot show all the veining, movement and natural variation that may appear in the finished countertop.
